Summer Camp with Suplex

A few weeks back, we teamed up with The Uncommon Individual Foundation (UIF) in supporting the Armenian Sisters Academy (ASA) with a summer recreational camp! Some of the activities included were: Trust Fall, Tic-Tac-Toe Relay Race, Bowling Pin Dodge Ball, Capture The Flag, Obstacle Course, and our favorite- a Sneaker Designing Competition, By integrating creative teamwork building activities, the kids learned about the core values of leadership, sportsmanship, and trust. From the beginning of camp to the end of camp, we passed along a pair of shoes for the winners of each activity to sign. Moreover, each activity was a chance to sign the shoes. Though only the “winners” were supposed to be able to sign it, we made sure that all of the kids eventually won some sort of game. Everyone has a skill and we helped identify their strength by letting them soar. This not only exemplifies the message that everyone’s a winner, but also shows greatness through being humble.

We are extremely proud to be a part of a philanthropic mission of service and education and will continue to do our best everyday to serve our community well!

As a part of our promise, we will be giving away a $100 Suplex Gift Card to the first kid that comes in with straight A’s on their most recent report card! Amongst all, education comes first!

The amazing kids of UIF!

Signatures from everyone!

Never Giving Up

A couple weeks ago we were lucky enough to meet Jose Martinez (IG:@1guru1). An United States Army Veteran who lost both his legs and right arm serving for our country in Iraq. Jose is a true inspiration for anyone who has ever thought about giving up-because he won't. His determination and resilience are a just a couple qualities that help his efforts in the fight for medical marijuana. His crusade against restrictive medical-marijuana laws brought him to Philadelphia recently where he met Tuffy- a nine year old who suffers from Lennox Gastaut Syndrome, a rare and catastrophic form of epilepsy. Cannabis oil has decreased Tuffy's seizures nearly 95%, from 200 a day to nearly none at all. Jose and other medical marijuana activists are traveling the country fighting for people like Tuffy. "There’s a reason for me to be here, and it’s to help out everybody who needs that push, that extra motivation to go on. Society says [people who smoke marijuana] are bad people. We’re just like everybody else." It was a true honor meeting Jose and we wish him the best of luck creating more awareness for people fighting for medical marijuana. Thanks also to Mike Whiter @phl_stoner from Weeds For Warriors Project for the photos!

Consignment or Cash?

The world of sneakers has transformed from what once was considered as a sub-culture of sneaker enthusiasts and collectors to a mass marketed endeavor. A whole new marketplace was created and sneaker consignment shops were the result. Our goal is to help ease the learning curve with an insightful post about some of the most asked questions regarding sneaker consignment and cash buy backs.

Consignment is defined as an agreement to pay a supplier of goods after the goods are sold. We at Suplex can explain the process in 4 simple steps:

1. Bring in or send us your sneakers
2. We advise to determine a comparable market/competitor price
3. We sell your sneakers in our store and on-line (http://suplexphiladlephia.com)
4. You receive a check for 80% of the total sale price, our commission is 20%.
We consign deadstock (brand new) sneakers and slightly worn pairs in at least 9/10 condition. Our PRE-OWNED section has a quick turnover rate for consignors and more reasonable prices for customers.
How do you determine MARKET VALUE?......
-At Suplex we price our sneakers based on our previous transactions and knowledge of the market, however SOLD eBay listings are a reliable indicator. Also, we look at other sneaker consignment shops locally and Flight Club NY to beat their prices. At Suplex we take pride in great value for our consignors while offering that same value to our customers.
Why pay a premium for SNEAKERS?....
-The emergence in sneaker consignment shops stem from the basic principles of supply and demand. Currently, Nike/Jordan and other exclusive sneaker releases are not meeting the overall demand for their product. Air Jordan's are sold out online in seconds, and with the emergence of BOTS(computer software that adds items to carts automatically)-it's become more difficult then ever to score a pair online. Retail stores have resorted to raffles/lotteries and TICKETS handed out a week in advance to avoid the headaches with long and rowdy lines on release day.
-confidence as a buyer. The recent sneaker boom has created an equal surge in the production of fake sneakers. These high-quality fakes are produced in factories in China by skilled experts that make it possible to re-create authentic pairs using an identical process. SUPLEX PHILADELPHIA can guaranetee authenticity. We are experts in determining fake sneakers, however we realize from time to time no one is perfect. For that reason, every pair is inspected multiple times from multiple experts to double and sometimes triple check a sneakers authenticity (IT CAN BE THAT DIFFICULT). The majority of fake sneakers are sold on eBay, even perfect sellers don't know what to look for when determining legitimacy of a sneaker. RELAX. No stress. At SUPLEX, buyers can feel confidence in their purchase from SUPLEX, an establishment that takes pride in being Philadelphia's most trusted consignment shop.
If you're already a re-seller?...
-Selling sneakers is not as easy as everybody must think, if it was then we would all be able to do it. If you find yourself already an eBay member selling sneakers, consider the upside of some of the following:
-avoiding fraudulent buyers, fees, responsibility for shipping, and bad reviews. Simply drop off your sneakers and receive a phone call/email once your items sell. (We pay-out our consignors every Friday). A check, or in some occasions, cash is available for pick-up. We also mail checks to our consignors who live outside the city for their convenience .
-Our unique software system offers the most accurate, organized and current inventory available for consignment shops in Philadelphia. We offer a timely and up-to-date status report for our consigners that show every item you have sold or currently hold in stock at Suplex.
-With over 600 different consignors and counting, we need a system that can accommodate such a high amount of information. Our software enables us to visually see every separate consignor's current information and account. As soon as your shoes sell, you will receive a prompt reply in the form of an email or phone call.
Do you buy sneakers at Suplex?
-YES. At Suplex we offer a  "buy back program". This is where we offer to buy your DEAD STOCK AND USED sneakers back from you, for CASH! If they are not completely DEADSTOCK, we consider the sneaker worn and consistently buy used pairs around $40-60, depending on model and quality.  We encourage consignment, for the seller to get max value, but we're also here to help out, and as we stated above, re-selling sneakers independently can be very difficult. So, wether you're looking to make space or just cannot sell the sneakers on your own, we're always buying.
For any additional questions or concerns please feel free to email the store at info@suplexphiladelphia.com

Action Bronson

Action always stops by when he is in the city. Being one of our favorite artists we've always made sure to hold it down for him and get him into something he's been looking for.  Bronson has a lot of friends in the sneaker industry, which makes finding something he can't get a little more difficult than most.  All in all it was a good time mixed with some shoe buying and a great way to cap off the Labor Day weekend.

Suplex Philadelphia: Kevin "Loudbond" McCarthy

Suplex Philadelphia: Kevin "Loudbond" McCarthy from SUPLEX PHILADELPHIA

In conjunction with our #huskychestgiveaway we figured Loudbond deserved his own spotlight. We wanted the winner to understand what they are getting when they win this amazing chest. Kevin's blue collar work ethic helps him churn out some of the most impressive custom sneaker boxes available on the market. His creations are simply one of a kind.

Kevin was introduced to box making when we enlisted in him to help us create our special gift to Action Bronson some time ago.  Check out SUPLEX PHILADELPHIA for that video.  We used his skills to make a one of a kind box to match the custom Blue Chips 2 new balance's we had ready for him.  From that point on he was getting orders coming in and has used it to help him find a niche in something he loves.  Be Sure to check out his Instagram: @Loudbond and our Instagram: @Suplexphiladelphia for the contest details.

Quality over Hype Part 2: Foot Patrol x Nike Air Stab

This week’s edition of Quality over Hype is dedicated to my favorite model of all time, the Air Stab. It might feel a bit biased, but that's because it is. In my opinion this is the best runner of all time. I'm the self proclaimed STAB KING with more pairs of stabs then most of you kids own in your coveted Jordan's. However, the message is not lost, the Stab will forever be quality over hype.
A gift from the sneaker gods, a collab with the legendary London boutique, Foot Patrol. The premier sneaker destination for our homies over the pond, the crew at Foot Patrol had the foresight to bring an all-time classic back from the dead. Originally designed by the man, the myth, the legend himself Mr. Tinker Hatfield, the name Stab is short for stability, like the profile states: straight-lasted training shoe for the runner who needs maximum cushioning and stability. The Air Stab was the first model to combine the footbridge device/technology with the air sole cushioning. One of the first models with visible air and featured a noticeable teeth shaped overlap of the air window, truly a "sharp" design to reflect the name itself.
December 3rd, 2005 my prayers were answered when Foot Patrol resurrected the Stab, re-releasing my grail in their London boutique. Customers were met with a beautiful young maid that dressed the part and served hot tea out of their very own FP Air Stab mug. Not only did you get to enjoy a cup of old fashioned English tea, you were able to keep the mug as a gift from the store for coming out. The sneaker itself features an original color way not seen before its time, a quality lost in most collabs today. A white leather insole and Carolina blue (GO TAR HEELS!) color blocking on the check, side, and lettering. With teeth on the air bubble and unmatched quality suede wraps the toe and overlaps the grey heel guard, accented with blue speckled paint. Coupled with a grey suede logo on the back heel and a translucent sole that seems to mimic a gum bottom with age turns a familiar silhouette into a masterpiece.

In 2008 Nike decided to stop selling the Air Stab in the UK due to significant stabbings at the time, specifically in London. Coincidently, that same summer Nike staff members were victims of a stabbing incident at their own Nike store in London. So, the Stab had to go. Bad timing mixed with some bad luck caused the Stab to vanish from shelves, leaving collectors wondering if the model would ever make a return. Fast forward nearly a decade later and the Nike Air Stab made a triumphant return like Jordan, wearing the four five. It was only appropriate that Size? (Big brother to Foot Patrol) released two pairs of an exclusive, winterized version of the sneaker. Both the black and burgundy pairs are still available now at Size?. Imagine that, one of the world's top names in sneakers releases one of the most popular runners of all time, exclusively sold at their store, and months later it's still available. Not because they're not dope, but because they're not hype.
Just a thought, but in my opinion if Kith released the same two pairs of Stab's as an exclusive Ronnie Fieg collab, it would sell out. Not because of the appreciation of a quality sneaker, but for the hype. That's just my humbled opinion but if your one of the rare breed who desires a quality sneaker for the low, grab the white-emerald green pair that is sitting on shelves at the South Street Villa (Ask for Lou, tell him the Stab King sent you). The first general release this year and it favors an OG color-way, c'mon what more do you want. Speaking of OG Stabs, if you haven't seen Sepatufresh's first episode of "Vintage: A Day To Remember" you need to, it's amazing. The materials are legit, beautiful suede uppers with a light mesh toe box. COMFORTABLE and AFFORDABLE. You can also order a pair of the newest color way on Nike now, and enjoy a pair of quality sneakers.
Sincerely,
The Stab King

Introducing: Quality over Hype Part 1

It's important to us at Suplex to promote quality over hype. That's why we decided to dedicate a weekly post highlighting sneakers that we feel are underrated, under appreciated and share our thoughts with others. Introducing "Quality > Hype"

The Air Jordan 2009 "S23". Yes. I said AJ2K9, listen up. At the time this sneaker released at all 3, that's right THREE House of Hoops locations compared to the hundreds in the US and Internationally only six years later. You hypebeasts want "exclusive", well the "S23" was limited to only 2,009 pairs-only 1,005 released in the U.S. while the other 1,004 pairs were a world wide release. Thats comparable to say a Bin23 7 in numbers; extremely limited.

Originally an exclusive JORDAN FLIGHT CLUB release (google it, young bulls). Inside the unique, trapezoid shaped box you will find a pair of gorgeous and extremely heavy sneakers. Heavy, because Jordan included cedar shoe trees. The very same inserts included with the BIN 23 series. Notice on the shoe's upper pleated panels of wire mesh ventilation which makes for a sleek, sharp design.

APT= Atriculated Propulsion Technology which took inspiration from elements of prosthetic running technology. Basically the designed a "revelutionary" heel system inspired from carbon fiber prosthetics used by our very own Paraolympians. Okay, so in all honesty this "revolutionary" technology doesn't make you feel the explosive forward movement that it promotes, BUT I think the inspiration behind the design is creative and definitively different than any other model before it's time. Which truly makes me appreciate new Jordan models. Every year JB pushes the envelope, introducing new technology unfamiliar not only with Jordan Brand but with performance sneakers period.

The gold lace tips, panache upper, patent leather and A DAMN OPAL! A true Jordan diamond in the rough. This shoe has a little bit of everything that qualifies as a hype sneaker, but it's not. It's off the radar. It's quality, which always beats Hype.
